The eponymous pig, Gunda, lives on a farm and has just become a mother to a litter of piglets. Beautifully shot, this black and white film only appears to have no dialogues. What can be heard all the time is grunts and squeaks, crowing and chirping, buzzing and wheezing. The entire worldcontinues to converse and this unique work by Kossakowski enables us to hear it. As emphasized by actor Joaquin Phoenix, who is also the film’s executive producer, Gunda crosses barriers dividing us from other species. He adds that the picture is a profound spiritual experience for him, a form of meditation on existence.
